Darn spell check

I think that the connection between the football program, Sandusky's
crimes, and the subsequent cover-up ARE coincidental.

I think that the connection between the football program, Sandusky's
crimes, and the subsequent cover-up and coincidental.

The concern of those who perpetrated the cover-up was not the
preservation of the football program, but the reputation of the whole
institution. The offense just happened to involve the football program,
but it could just as easily have involved any other prominent part of
the institution.

Here's a quick thought exercise to hopefully prove the point.

First the given, that Spanier (who in my mind is the most culpable
individual in the coverup) understood the full implications of the
report that he read in 2002 and chose only to distance the institution
from the perpetrator.

Now let's change the actors. Instead of Sandusky, it was a retired
physician who was part of the Pediatrics department of the Penn State
Hershey Children's Hospital who had been discovered in a similar
situation as Sandusky by an intern in 2002. That's around the time PSU
was starting a fund raising effort for a new 250,000 sq foot facility
that recently broke ground. The Children's Hospital is ranked as one of
the top facilities in the country. What does Spanier do?

I suggest he does EXACTLY the same thing.

If we follow the logic of some on this list, that would mean that PSU
should suspend construction and close down the Children's Hospital.

See what I mean?

Jeff

I think Alan was right, but I appreciate the good debate from last
night.
The fact that college football and the big money it brings has corrupted
the
most basic human value we have, protecting our children, is beyond
belief.
It shows that a rethinking of our priorities is needed and the death
penalty for PSU football is appropriate. Sure, innocent football
players and
fans will be harmed, but that pales in comparison with the harm to
those 10,
20, or 100 boys raped by that sicko and shielded by his enablers who
were
the heart and soul of the PSU football family.
