[NU Sports] as one of the "mob" (thanks SJT) who called for Paterno's head

... I am glad, for him and for us, the PSU board has spared us the sight of Joe coaching football any longer this season. It will help put the scandal behind for the innocents involved (the players, for example) and allow the focus to shift more to those directly responsible for letting a monster such as Sandusky prey on innocents for 15-plus years.
On available evidence, it appears Joe did the minimum legally to avoid charges. That, of course, could change on further investigations, another reason he needed to go.
But even if it does not, a university may have and should have higher standards for its staff -- especially high-profile, nationally-famous staff -- than just doing the minimum. I have no problem whatsoever with the Penn State board holding Spanier and Paterno to a higher standard and then enforcing it. The grand jury presentment makes it clear that Spanier and Paterno had opportunities to do more than they did. They did not. They failed. They failed their university, their community, their students and most of all the helpless boys who were (allegedly) victimized by a predator who played off his PSU connections to lure the boys and assaulted them in PSU facilities.
For that failure, they paid with their jobs and their reputations. I have no problem whatsoever with that, and if my writings played the tiniest role in bringing that about (which I have no illusions that they did) I am proud of that.
If that be a "mob", then I'm mobbed up, SJT.
