[NU Sports] one angle I wonder about

We seem to be spiraling out of control on this list faster than the media circus in State College.

Why on earth would PSU not play in the bowl game or Big Ten title game?

Should PSU cancel classes because their president is about to be fired? Should all sports teams cancel their weekend plans because the AD will be out soon as well? If the basketball coach gets arrested for DUI, would the hoops team cancel its season???

This is starting to get a bit far fetched. NO player on the football team is involved in this -- why punish them?

Whether Paterno finishes the season with them or not is another matter -- getting rid of him now seems to let the school off the hook and dim the spotlight, finishing with him certainly could lead to awkward moments at the Big Ten or Rose Bowl trophy presentations. But most of the coaching staff and all of the players were not involved here - why punish them?

I agree that because of the publicity, PSU is no longer a B(C)S at-large candidate (though an SEC school with a lengthy police blotter is fine apparently), but they should still finish their season and go to whatever bowl the team earns.

I hate to keep comparing it to the Catholic Church, but as I said earlier, this is really more of a moral scandal like that than an athletic one. But were all the congregations shuttered? Were the parishes of the priests charged disbanded?

Let's not get so far caught up in the media circus that we forget who the criminals are here. Paterno has his moral mistakes to live with, but he is not legally charged with anything, the facts are not all out yet and it doesn't involve anything with the football players or team on the field. He may not deserve to be the coach, but they deserve to play!!!
