[NU Sports] Some thoughts

My thoughts:

I agree with Brad Wilson entirely. (Kudos on a good column, Brad.)

As much good as Joe Paterno has done over the years, and he has, he made a
grievous error in 2002 when he did not report what happened to the police.
Moreover, it seems incomprehensible that Sandusky was allowed continued
access to the Penn State football facilities, and thus to more potential
victims.

Putting aside the criminal case, and the issue of Sandusky's guilt, the
civil liability issues are profound. The Board of Trustees should recognize
that, and sever ties with Paterno immediately.

As to whether the NCAA will be "involved": Mark Emmert has already issued a
statement. Whether it will be "involved' beyond that remains to be seen. To
be obvious: this is a really, really big deal -- the front page of the New
York Times, the sort of thing that tends to get a lot of people who
ordinarily wouldn't pay attention to college football suddenly interested.
That means the NCAA might have to get "involved" in ways it might not
otherwise. Let's see.

A further note after watching video of last night's rally outside the
Paterno house. This was another opportunity that Joe Paterno, who is
supposed to be an educator, missed. What he should have done was step
outside and tell the students, "Go home -- your thoughts should not be with
me right now -- the thoughts of all good people should be with the victims
in this terrible affair -- now, young people, go home."
