Not that it matters in the big picture (except to the bean counters at
all the Big Ten schools), but there are conference revenue implications 
here.  Penn State was in the hunt for a BCS at-large slot even if 
they lost the Big Ten Championship game.  

BW: And NU bowl questions too .. no PSU in a bowl, if NU gets to 6-6 or 7-5, does it move up a notch?

USCF is ineligible for the Pac 12 championship game as well as a 
bowl game, if Penn State takes itself out of the bowl season, then they
should opt out of the Big Ten Championship game as well.

BW: Could they opt out? I agree with what you say, but I don't know if they could. Maybe OSU and Wisconsin will spare us the worry.

I don't recall, did he do that for the past few games where he was up
in the pressbox?

BW: He did at NU. Since then I don;t recall, either.
