===================
Pedophilia wasn't invented in the 60's.
It is a psychiatric disorder that can be traced back to antiquity.
It is not the result of the "anything goes" attitudes of the 60's any more that it is the result to taking a vow of celibacy.
There is no known cure. Treatments are aimed at behavior modification and sometimes include chemical castration. The bottom line is that people (mostly men) suffering from this condition can't control their urges to prey on children. That's why the most effective prevention is keep pedophiles away from children. That's also why it is imperitive to report any suspected cases of pedophilia immediately to the authorities.
The Sandusky case is a good example. This guy was caught by adults in the act a number of times that we know of (and probably many more we don't know of), but continued to seek out vulnerable boys that he could victimize. ANYONE who has even a passing familiarity with this condition knows that getting the authorities involved is the only reliable method to prevent further abuse. Even if Sandusky was receiving treatment, his continued involvment with kids was a sure tipoff to anyone familiar with his condition that he was NOT under control. That's why it is disturbing that PSU didn't notify the authorities.
