Harry,
Joe's defense according to his lawyer is that the original grad
assistant didn't tell Joe in detail what he saw in the shower in 2002.
Still, if there was any question that Sandusky was hurting these kids,
wouldn't most reasonable people have at least asked their internal
contact again. Now it may turn out that Curley told Joe that it was all
taken care of and was a big misunderstanding. That certainly could get
Joe off the hook, but only because of his age. A younger person would
not accept that sort of response.
Jeff

I am not a lawyer so perhaps those on the list could help me out--Based
on what I am reading it is PA law to report a child sexual assault---If
my neighbor tells me he saw John Doe sexually assault an 11 year old
boy, I am required to call the cops ?--or do I have to have witnessed it
directly or be told of it by an alleged victim ? Can I contact an
authority of where it allegedly happened ? Thus can I cal the Principal
of a school if I hear (not personally witnessed) a teacher was sexually
assaulting a minor and be done with it ?
What seems to have happened--( and again I understand a lot of
information is currently not available and thus could change my
thoughts) is someone told Joe Pa about it and he went and told
University officials assuming they would investigate the matter--Is he
required to follow up ? should he follow up ? Is he required to still
tell the cops ? My sense is if it isnt the law, and that he tells
university officials and assumes they will investigate--if he doesnt
hear anything else, he might feel that they took a look at it and didnt
find anything more--(the fact that there was more, in this instance
shouldnt be Joe's responsibility-,-that is ,can't he properly assume
that if told the University, that they would investigate properly ?
I am sure he has reported a whole host of allegations throughout his
career and lets the University do its job of investigating (i.e it isnt
his job to investigate , only to notify those that are supposed to
investigate and co operate fully with any investigation)--This he
appears to have done
Harry
