exceptionally well at both football and academics. Of course it happens but its more the
exception than the rule. 

And Stanford has not been a consistent powerhouse school.

In the 17 seasons since 1995, Stanford has had seven winning seasons.

In that same time period, Northwestern has also had seven winning seasons,
plus one 6-6 season and one 6-6 record in the regular season but
with a bowl loss, and 2011 is still undecided.
