[NU Sports] Remember, Remember...

My scenario is that Martinez throws a couple of picks which NU turns
into early scores and then gets injured and can't return. His backup
Brion Carnes has virtually no game experience, which means that the team
becomes one dimensional - hand the ball to Burkhead. We put eleven guys
in the box, coach fitz suits up, and we throw in some lawn furniture to
slow Rex down. Game turns into a shootout. Burkhead finally collapses
on the field on his 51st carry like Little Blackie in True Grit and
fumbles on the final play. The UNL band takes the field thinking
they've won. Brian Peters picks up the loose ball and runs through the
band for the winning score as the clock expires. The hometown crowd
riots and burns Lil Red at midfield. Scores of fans fall ill from the
toxic fumes generated by burning latex and years of perspiration.
Memorial Stadium is closed for several weeks to clean up the mess. The
football program never recovers and Nebraska eventually becomes the
third BT school to withdraw from the conference. And that, my son, is
how Notre Dame came to be a member of the Big Ten.

Jeff
