[NU Sports] A dumb question....

I always heard "rumbles" of problems in Columbus, even when I did some webcasts with the
Bucknuts guys. There were things they just didn't want to talk about, and I couldn't guess
what they were, since all I heard were those "rumbles" of "issues" with the players.

I also seem to remember that Tressell moved his office to be closer to the locker room
when he took over, with the stated reason that he wouldn't tolerate the shenanigans that
had gone on with his predecessor. Now it seems that he was just trying to keep a lid on
all the stuff going on.

You also could have gauged the depth of the problems when the Alumni withheld the charm
that they give to the team every time they beat Michigan.

Now comes the deep look into every other program in the Big 10 - while the "$100
handshake" continues elsewhere. They've just perfected it so you can't see it.

But now we know why dOSU wanted to give the players a "stipend" in addition to their
scholarship.

I don't think "all these newspaper guys knew all this dirt" is the answer.

My guess -- I stress I don't know -- is that there's a fair amount of original reporting
in the story.

Why didn't they put it out, instead of letting the rumors fester?

Just because they are Ohio's premier pro team (much the same as the Sooners were in
Oklahoma back in the 1990's under Barry S.) doesn't mean that you don't report the news.

Or is there a double standard in American sports coverage.....
