[NU Sports] Gordon Gee

My sense when all of this started was that Tressel was taking a fall for
the institution. That doesn't absolve Tressel for what he did, but I
just have hard time figuring that Tressel did all of this on his own.

If Tressel did tell Smith, I'm sure Smith would have told Gee.

As the SI article pointed out, most coaches (and institutions) create
plausible deniability by letting their assistant coaches do the dirty
work. The fact that it didn't go down this way at OSU also suggests
that Tressel was acting with Smith and Gee's tacit approval.

When these things unravel, all sorts of ugly stuff usually spills out on
the front yard for all to see. It will be interesting.

Someone here at work reminded me that this is probably the first time in
100+ years of OSU/Michigan games that both teams will have rookie
coaches.

Fellow Wildcat Faithful,

I'll admit to taking great joy in watching tOSU unravel, but at the end
of the
day it's an embarassing reflection on the Big Ten.

I find it very interesting that this all happened while Gordon Gee was
president
at tOSU. I was in business school at Vanderbilt when he so proudly
dismantled
the athletic department there. I don't have a direct quote from him but
the
general idea what that the athletic departemnt kept the student-athletes
apart
from the regular students and that was a bad thing.

If Gee survives in Columbus I wonder if he'd have the courage to
implement the
same strategy at a school where the athletic department is clearly doing
damage
to the university.

Victory & Honor,
Jim
