There are a number of references in the SI article to folks who refused to be named because of fear of retribution from either the University or the fans.

My favorite quote from Carr was about OSU fans.  He told his team that they would know when they entered the city limits when the players started seeing grandmothers gathered on street corners waving.  If you looked closely you saw that they were waving only one finger.

If all these newspaper guys knew all this dirt about Tressel.

Why didn't they put it out, instead of letting the rumors fester? 

Just because they are Ohio's premier pro team (much the same as the Sooners were in
Oklahoma back in the 1990's under Barry S.) doesn't mean that you don't report the news.

Or is there a double standard in American sports coverage.....
