[NU Sports] Cats beat BC

I think --as has been pointed out in emails yesterday after the game--that BC's big test will come AFTER the NIT, unless we shock the world and win the damn thing.:-) Can he recruit a top Point Guard to come in as a freshman and replace Juice and run the offense? We have enough pieces coming back to be more than decent, but without someone to distribute the ball and quarterback the "O", those pieces may be in limbo. Shurna will be solid, if he stays healthy, and the supporting cast is not bad when they all hit the boards. A solid PG, combined with a mobile, defensive-minded big body in the low blocks, would represent a healthy rrecruiting class, IMHO.

Dennis is actually more optimistic than me. While he throws a bunch of ifs in
is analysis, I don't see Shurna as an All American candidate, just a solid BT
layer. I think we could make the expanded tournament and even get a W early on
ut we still will likely have a lot of holes. Size is still key, particularly in
he BT. We will still be woefully behind the conference's best unless a lot more
uys go pro than I think will
Relying on treys is great if you can make them like we did today and some other
ames, but it is a risky business not only because shooters can get cold but
efenses can eventually figure out that you might have a weak inside game and
lay tighter on the good
hooters. To me, Dennis and I agree on one major item; the need for a solid big
an. Without that we are limited going forward
Still while disappointed that we couldn't live up to the expectations of so many
his year and get asked to the dance,I'm thrilled that we are in unchartered
erritory. No matter what happens going forward,we can all say we went further
n the post season than ever before. And yes that means we must keep BC at
east one more year

> Next year, Shurna, assuming he stays healthy, is a first-team All-American
candidate. If we have a legitimate point guard, and can find any sort of
inside presence, we should be NCAA-tourney good. I do not belong to the
 "oh,
gosh, we are going to have a freshman running the offense and that sucks"
school. Last I looked, a lot of really, really good freshman were playing
college basketball, and going right from their freshman years to the NBA.
The four C's - Cobb, Crawford, Curletti, and Capocci - have to become the
our A's next year - their play, that is. IF Crawford finally becomes the
ominant player everyone keeps saying he should be and IF Cobb does a
hurna-like improvement from frosh to soph year and IF Curletti and Capocci
lay off the bench as they did in the last portion of this season and not
ike the rest of this season and IF all of them can remain healthy, then we
an get into the tourney as a bubble team. IF all that happens and IF we
btain a good center, we could vie for the conference title and be a sure
ourney selection. Those are more IFs than Rudyard Kipling could handle, so
'll hold the celebration until I see it happen.
Yep, Carmody gets one more year - at least. Only time will tell whether
hat is good or bad.
