Word is it is looking pretty dicey right now. NIT must give bids to
regular-season champs in any conference that loses its championship
tournament. There have been an unusual number of these upsets this year
eating up most of the NIT slots. According to one website, the nine schools
Southern Miss, New Mexico, Mississippi, Nebraska, Baylor, Northwestern, UCF,
Iona, and Dayton are fighting for the last three spots.
For conference "wow" factor you would give the edge to Mississippi, NU and
either Nebraska or Baylor. But the NIT is run by the NCAA now and I don't
know if names/money mean as much any more.
By the way, did anyone know that UCF (Univ Central Florida) is the USA's 2nd
largest school with 56,000 students?
