I think it may say more about what the owners think about how the skills of veteran 
players will fare after a missed season and with TWO years worth of mostly lower-priced
'rookies' to choose from.  

In one of the Star Trek shows (TNG, I think) there was a line referring to major
league baseball something to the effect of how that particular activity didn't 
survive the 21st century.

With the NFL and now the NBA both trying to self-destruct, maybe the screenwriter(s) 
were on to something.  :sigh:
