According to the Wiki page on Babe Ruth, it was the 1919 play
'My Lady Friends', not a musical but considered the predecessor
of the 1925 musical 'No No, Nannette'.

But Ruth had demanded a salary increase, from $10,000 to $20,000,
and Harry Frazee (the Red Sox owner from 1916 to 1923) was said to be
a tightwad with his players. That hardly made him unusual among
owners (pre Kurt Flood, I guess.) Jim Bouton wrote that the Yankees
used to give out World Series rings, and demand the previous year's
ring back!
