[NU Sports] telling Carmody postgame quote

The Cats were 10-1 in the non-conference schedule, which normally would give us
a boost, but the quality of the opposition was so weak (around #300 strength of
schedule, with one opponent in the Top 100), that it's turning out to be a
negative.  I'm not sure why we had to do that with an experienced team, as it's
probably added one or two wins required in the Big Ten.

oops sorry I was counting the exhibition win when I looked at the schedule.

So if the 20 win rule holds, we actually need two legit upsets to get to that
number in the regular season.

FYI - Cats are 13-7, 3-6.

The analysis I've read is that we have to get at least 20 wins to make the
tourney.

How do you see us getting there from where we are right now with 14 wins?

Here's the rest of our schedule.

Ohio State - 1
Illinois - 1
Michigan - 1
PSU - 2
Iowa - 1
Indiana - 1
Wisky -1
Minny - 1

So let's say that we beat Michigan and Indiana on the road and Iowa at home.
We're still three short.

Now let's be even more generous and we take both games against PSU who has a
good team this year and historically has played us tough.  We're still one
short.  Where does that one come from?

It should have come from MSU, be we weren't able to get over the hump with
them.  Now it has to come from a legit upset against teams that we don't match
up well against (Minny), that have dominated us (Wisky and ILL), or are #1 in
the country OSU.

I was just throwing a theory out there to explain why we've seen lackluster play
from this team lately.  They are smart and can add too.

Doesn't mean that I won't be watching or that I won't be rooting for a win in
every game left on schedule.

Jeff

I still think the jury is out on this season. Every Big Ten loss has
been to a currently ranked team (do people realize that?), and even St.
John's has been on the positive side of the tourney bubble. We don't
have a quality win, and the chances to get one are running out, but it's
still conceivable. All we really need is one (two would certainly clinch
it).

If we ever actually lose to an unranked opponent, that will be one
thing. There will certainly be no room for error in that five-game
stretch. But people seem to forget that how we fare against Ohio State
or Wisconsin has nothing to do with whether we eventually make the
tournament. Nothing has been decided yet; let's hope the team doesn't
give up the way the fans have seemed to.
