[NU Sports] Recruiting

It has been a while, but under Walker, NU offered most of the blue chip Juniors on signing
day, a year out. The letters were sent out to kids the recruiting guys had identified as
meeting NU's criteria, and who were highly rated by the different private recruiting
services.
I think we operate the way Stanford does - to be a serious recruit, the kid has to apply
to the school, then they can talk to him or her.
However, I wonder if is a money issue? They don't want to pay for a coach's trip to Podunk
if the kid has no interest in NU. Or, perhaps, it is another one of those "secret
recruiting rules" that most Div I teams run afoul of every year.
Maybe one of the regular media guys could ask the Media office to explain?

Did I see what I thought I saw in the Trib article on Fitz? That he can't make "official
recruiting visits to prospects who have either been admitted or on track to be admitted to
school?" That explains at least part of our recruiting problems. Unless recruits first
consider us, we can't recruit them? Does any other school do that? Apparently our
administration flunked salesmanship 101.
Drop that rule now!
