Matt Murschel appears to be a write from the Orlando Sentinel, a paper also
owned by the Tribune company, and sometimes they do share content between
papers. Saying that, I've never read any college football coverage from him
before as I presume his focus is on teams in the state of Florida. I agree
that these preseason rankings are riddled with issues and errors/omissions;
a couple of examples: he heavily knocks Michigan but still has them ranked,
and he completely neglects to mention Michigan State losing Greg Jones to
graduation despite Jones being the center of their defense (Gordon is a nice
player, too, but this makes the loss to their LB corps even larger).
In any case it was obviously the right time for a look ahead with the 2010
season officially ending last night, unfortunately the analysis just wasn't
that great. Our own Teddy Greenstein would have done a better job, IMHO,
but he was likely busy writing this:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/greenstein/ct-spt-0111-northwestern-carmody--20110110,0,1373565.column
Which says that Carmody's "multi-year" extension was 2 years, through the
2012-2013 season. Sounds like a recruiting stop-gap more than a validation
of his accomplishments to me.
