[NU Sports] Dump Carmody - Name Hardy Interim

Chris Emma at Scout reported earlier in the week that any big men would have to come from Europe since the guy who was interested at one time had taken NU off his list....
However - on last night.
I couldn't believe that NU shot so badly while ILL shot so well. We'd get wide open looks and miss by feet.
At one point in the first half I was questioning why Cobb was starting! Thankfully he started to play to potential in the 2nd half, but he looked out of place out there.
Juice was Juice but he is almost too cool in his approach. I know he has to play under control as the "little guy," but you'd like to see him get a little riled up and make some shots.
Shurna is really hurt, and Crawford misses him on the court. If Coble was still playing, we would have had him and Shurna starting with Crawford subbing in, but Shurna and Coble almost play the same kind of game, could the Cats actually have played with two take charge forwards on the court?
Of course with Shurna hurt, our scoring wouldn't have dropped off so badly had Coble continued. Someone else has to step up and play forward. At least Pelucic made his presence known last night.
The positives were the bench guys who came in and started to catch up. They showed why they're on the bench, but they sure were able to put the ball in the hole better than the starters were late in the game.
Finally: I'm not a big fan of changing coaches during the season. You get a two or three game bump and then the upper class guys figure they have nothing to lose and start to play their own game, win or lose. The Interim guy figures he's gone so a little of the fire goes too, and recruiting falls off.
Actually, if NU replaced BC, you'd also have to look at BC's #2, Mitch Henderson who probably would have a better handle on the team and the system but I'm not sure any of the assistants are ready to take over the entire program just yet.
But all this talk of firing Carmody just makes it harder to recruit kids who are afraid of NU's academics anyway.
And a couple of wins will go a long way to fixing a drought caused by playing 3 ranked teams in a week.

While I'm not going to come to carmody's defense because ultimately the results have to speak for themselves; BUT I do recall reading that he had recruited some "big men" for next season that appeared promising.
