This is a flawed argument, as more than half of FBS teams get to go to a bowl game, whereas only 65 out of 300+ Division 1 basketball teams get to go to the NCAA tournament, plus another 32 to the NIT.  
If football had the same percentage of teams making a bowl game as basketball teams making the NCAA tournament, I doubt any of Walker's last three teams would have made a bowl game.  The 2005 Sun Bowl team might barely have qualified.  
I'm not trying to diminish the accomplishments of Walker or to talk up what Carmody has done, but basketball and football are two different animals.
