Maybe the other network is part of the key.  If each conference is home 
for six games, ABC/ESPN and CBS each get six games a year and they can 
split the cost.

Back to the Pac-10: The additional money from the network for the 
promise of good games that would attract audience from all over the 
country could make up for the gate.  And you could do a noon, a 3:30, 
and a prime time game.  The only downside is that unless you stretched 
it out over four weekends, you'd have to double up timeslots with games 
on one of the conferences' networks.  (There is a Pac-10 network now, 
isn't there?)  But it's an entertaining idea.
