[NU Sports] 41 points at PSU

I will re-iterate my key thought that I throw in every year. NU has tried everything vis a vis coaching in the 35 years I have followed them. They had a big name from a big time school (Foster-Duke). They tried an African American coach where it was felt he could make better inroads to African american players than we had in the past. (Byrdsong) They got coaches from good academic programs where it was felt they had experience in recruiting and coaching the smart basketball players Vandy/Princeton). Nothing has worked for us. It obviously isn't easy and that is an understatement. You need more than one strong player. Aguire had Skip Dillard,Terry Cummings,(I believe 3 first rounders) and Bernard Randolph and they only made it past the first round 1 of his 3 years at DePaul !
I don't know the answer and doubt our AD,President,,or any of us know it either

Well, I'll try by:
1. Pointing out that we WERE able to find a Barnett.
2. Simply reiterating my last post regarding Coble.
Most all of the feel good revival/under dog stories in sports include a coach who can inspire teams and has the ability to bring the best out of individuals that may someone els's problem child.
In our case I believe Carmody allowed Coble to become a problem child. So even when after 11 years when he finally assembles a cast of players capable of the dance, he blows it. A great coach would have found away to keep his team together.
Then NU is a 3 headed monster. Shirk doesn't have to rush back too soon. Lots of stuff, and
3. Having our AD signal that NU is devoted to making NU a perennial Big 10 contender and making a coaching change Now. I don't know if Tavaras is the answer, but give him a chance see if he can make a run to close the season and how far he takes the team in the Big 10 Tourney. If he turns it around, start by giving him a chance next year (I understand he's supposed to be a great recruiter). If there is no significant difference go shop for that great coach that ain't great yet.
We did it in football. And that's gotta be tougher than B Ball.
