The Cats picked up three 6' 3" wide receivers on signing day. I am especially intrigued by Christian Jones, a 200-pounder who was ranked as a four-star recruit after his junior year but who tore his ACL and played little last season. He comes in with a three-star rating but could be a real sleeper. He wants to take cake courses - biomechanical engineering. Pierre Youngblood-Ary is getting the press but only caught nine passes last season thanks to playing in an option offense. At least I hope that is why he only caught nine passes.
Another possible sleeper is defensive lineman (likely an end) Max Chapman, who comes in needing to put some heft on his 230 lb., 6' 3" frame but who competed in high school in the 100 meter dash with a best time of 11.2 seconds. Speed on the outside would be most welcome.
Overall, the newcomers look solid if the ratings mean anything - almost all three-star, which is the best rated group I can recall at NU. It would have been nice to see a four or five-star running back and defensive lineman among that group, but we must wait another next year for that event. (Texas got one five-star running back and fifteen four-stars. At least one of those sixteen athletes must be Northwestern material. Sigh.)
