[NU Sports] may be a long time to break this streak

Last time I checked, as long as the guy is wearing an NU uniform and is running with the ball, it counts.

Here's what the statistics from the last three years say.

2009 - 117.5/game
           3.0 yards/attempt
           fields 302
           kafka 295

2010 - 155.9/game
           3.6 yards/attempt
           trumpy 530
persa 519 (717 if you take away his sacks)

2011 - 166.6/game
           3.8 yards/attempt
coulter 654 (758 if you take away his sacks)
           schmidt 471

Improvement from 2009 - 2011
Average yards per game - +42%
Yards per attempt - +27%
Leading rusher - +116%

That backup QB/WR that you seem to want to discount ended up gaining more yards on the ground this year than our top two rushers in 2009 combined. That didn't happen by accident and as far as I can see represents a welcome improvement in our running game.

Clearly there is a pattern here where our offense the last two years has taken advantage of the QB as a running option. We also aren't the only ones doing this. Coulter is part of the new breed of college QB's who have transformed the spread into a potent running offense. We are fortunate to have him.

Jeff

We do? What team were you watching? A backup quarterback/receiver was our
leading rusher this season, and we don't run the triple option.
