It appears based on some other reports that this may be in lieu of expanding 
the Big Ten conference football schedule to 9 games, and it involves other 
sports (which could be a good thing, especially for Northwestern) but so 
far I don't see anything on the Big Ten website about it.  (Their website 
drives me nuts.)

BTW, did people see the story during the bowl game yesterday about the kid
who is getting scholarship offers?  The first two schools his mother mentioned
were Stanford and Northwestern.
