Best team in NU history? It isn't even the best in my lifetime. I think the '82-'83 team coached by Rich Falk was the best. Jim Stack, Art Aaron, Andre Goode, Gaddis Rathel and the wonderful PG Michael Jenkins.......THREE 1,000 point career scorers on that team.......played home games in DePaul's Alumni Hall, great atmosphere for hoops. Beat ND on St. Patrick's day in the NIT, and lost a heaertbreaker to DePaul in the second round. It was the first time EVER that NU made a post-season tournament, so quite an accomplishment This was the only team I have seen that had quality starters across the board. Plus, they could play defense, something Carmondy never figured out in his tenure.
A big gap between that team and the current version IMHO!

This may be the best basketball team in NU history. Crawford has come to
lay, Shurna is Shurna, Hearn has been a surprise, and Sobolewski came out
f the chute playing solid basketball. Cobb and Marotullio, though, need to
et their court legs back to lengthen the bench.
Unfortunately, the talent still isn't good enough for us to feel sanguine
bout making the Big Dance. I believe the best we can realistically hope
or is another NIT with a shot at going deep into the tournament. We'll
ikely pull some upsets during the regular season and lose some we should
in. We probably prevail if the threes are dropping and likely lose if
hey're not. In other words, expect pretty much the same ol' same ol' with
n extra win or two. The principle problem is an old one: put-backs and
nes-and-done will remain events the opposition enjoys. Mirkovic has
bviously worked hard on his game and is playing the best ball of his life,
ut he cannot hold up against the league's better front lines.
While we have the best opportunity of making the NCAAs since I matriculated
18.5 years ago, I'm afraid it still isn't enough this year.
