The problem is that he's claiming that his anti-playoff stance somehow means that he is nobly shunning financial interests, when in fact the opposite is true: he'd rather have a smaller pie to himself than share a much larger pie with others. Again, nothing necessarily wrong with that, but he's being disingenuous with the quote below.
