[NU Sports] Jim Phillips Greatest Hits

My dad always taught me to "aim high". I think Jim Phillips' dad
taught hm that same valuable lesson. We should all be proud that
Phillips and Fitz want to rise to the challenge and not shrink from it.
Yes, it will be very tough to beat A & M in their backyard. But, as
Mike correctly points out, we beat Nebraska on their front lawn, in
front of an entire stadium rooting against us. At least at a bowl
game, we get a decent percentage of the crowd. I view this game a lot
like I did before the Outback, when we were confronting an Auburn team,
which, although it had experienced a few "down" years, came with a
fantastic tradition and rabit fan base. The Auburn fans were psyched
for the Outback Bowl, but I don't think that the Aggies will have that
same degree of intensity bawaiting acking them. Auburn was led by a
young, up and coming Coach, just like we were. We still have our up
and coming Coach, A & M has an empty waiting to be filled. Can their D
Coordinator rise to the occasion and lift the team--that is the big X
Factor here. They probably beat us if it's just talent pool against
talent pool. But football is more than that, otherwise we would have
been slaughtered in Nebraska and again at home in the last game against
MSU--when we played well, just not well enough against a very powerful,
determined--and well-coached--team.

It's hard to "Expect Victory" when we haven't tasted it since 1949, but
eventually we will break through. As the Dodgers fans used to say
before 1955, why not this year? Then they finally were able to stop
saying "Wait until next year."

Please, all you Cubs fans on the List, don't rain on my parade, by
pointing out the Cubs' drought, and drawing a parallel to NU. It's
hard enough for me to resist bringing up my J-E-T-S, who are on the
schneid since Joe Namath over the Colts back in Super Bowl III.

> I disagree. I think this is a major failure on his part. We have no
business being in this game. We will get blown out. Illinois got the
bowl that would have been good for us. I want to finally win a bowl
game. We have no chance in this game. Maybe he couldn't do anything
to prevent it, but it is certainly not a victory.

I disagree that we have no chance in this game. People kept saying we
had
no chance in the Nebraska game this year, too, one of the experts had
Nebraska
at a 97% chance to win the game. Many of the people on this list had
us
completely out of the bowl picture in mid-October.

This year we had a chance in nearly every game, and I believe we can end
the bowl drought this year, in A&M's back yard, too!
