[NU Sports] Meineke Bowl

Good for him - more coaches need to step up and call out the BS of the B(C)S. Maybe now that the Big XII Computer Sham was left out of the party, they too will get the message that this plain ole' sucks.

And NU alum Stewart Mandel made a nice point in his column on how puzzling it was that the Sugar selected VaTech over Boise, K-State, Baylor or Oklahoma.

Interesting how the Cartel managed to leave TCU out in the cold as well. Yet the ACC and Big Least get three teams combined? An absolute joke.

GO CATS!!!

Exactly ... I'm sure I'll take more than a few more shots at Houston (and btw, I would much rather attend a football game in Ford Field than any place in Houston :) ) and it is a tough matchup ... BUT ...

* It will be great to see Persa, Ebert, Dunsmore and more take the field in purple one more time
* It is a bigger "name" matchup for our profile when we get the win
* It is in a recruiting hotbed area and can only help get our name out there
* It is another example of Phillips and Fitz selling NU well enough to move up over where we'd have been in other years

A lot to be thankful for as an NU fan and something that didn't look very likely a month or so ago.

Bring on the Aggies! GO CATS!!!

Let's not wallow in doom and gloom or implicitly criticize Phillips and Fitz for seeking a more challenging game and attractive venue (which dovetails with recruiting).  It just dawned on me that  A & M's foremost alumnus may be Rick Perry, former "yell" leader.   Let's show Gov. Perry some "northern hospitality" by kicking Aggie butt.   If we can beat A & M, the thought that it would upset that lamebrain would just add to my joy.

I have faith in Fitz, Persa, Ebert and Peters to bring home a win.  In Fitz we trust.  If we could handle the Huskers in Lincoln, we should be competitive with A & M, right?  This won't be easy, but it will be sweeter if we pull it off than beating up on a MAC team.

So let's think positive and enjoy the moment.  Six weeks ago we couldn't have imagined being where we are now.

   Dennis and List Gang,

Your right on both counts.  If A&M feels like playing we'll get our ass handed to us.  And to think I thought we'd finally play in a winnable game.  As far as the basketball team is concerned its better we get pounded now than in a month; hopefully we learned something other than the fact that they are better than us.  I'm OK with losing to a team in the Top 10, just so we learned a few things that will help us in conference play.  Look liked we bailed out on working the paint; looked like years past when we'd come down the court and fire up a 3.

I know I'm being negative about our bowl game, but I saw Iowa St. , Cal, Wake Forest, Rutgers, Toledo, Ohio and NIU as teams we could compete with. The one team I thought we'd have trouble with we get.  I don't get it. We've lost 8 in a row; can we , until we get the Gorilla off our back go after a team we can handle instead of the most attractive destination?

   Eric

Texas A&M 52  NU 28

It's going to be another frustrating bowl season.  And today reality sat upon
the basketball team too.
