[NU Sports] Never again should we hear ...

Not sure you can determine a regular season champ using an 8-game schedule out of 12 teams ... yeah, MSU was 7-1 and UW 6-2, but had they played a full rotation, who knows.

Sparty lost out on Pasadena last year using some rulebook tiebreaker ... this year at least they had a chance to make it to Pasadena on the field.

Their regular season matchup was still one of the best games of the year and exciting. The upsets like NU over UNL were just as shocking. And the big games like UW/PSU just as meaningful.

The people in favor of a playoff have never claimed that it would make the regular season less exciting or less meaningful (and I would argue that league title games have shown that it doesn't) ... but OPPONENTS of a playoff system have used those claims.

And they are now the ones who have rendered a regular season "game of the century" meaningless by giving Alabama a second shot at LSU and a title if they win. They're the ones with the hypocrisy here.

So the B(C)S has destroyed the bowl tradition and now it has also destroyed the "every game counts" mirage of the regular season ... what defense is there of this system again??? A playoff would make more money. A playoff would do no more harm on the "student" in student athlete. A playoff would keep all of the controversy and talk over who was left out, who had an easier road, etc.. A playoff would keep all of the meaning and excitement of the regular season games.

The B(C)S couldn't even get the RichRod Bowl right and gave us VaTech/Michigan. Yawn.

This is a crap-tastic new low for this system. I am now fully donning elephant headgear and rooting for Slick Nick Saban to win the rematch and national title so we hear the uproar from the Bayou about how ridiculous it is. Maybe once an SEC school gets robbed like that, maybe then the people will wake up and realize how truly awful this "worst of both worlds" system actually is. B-C-MESS!!! B-C-MESS!!!

GO CATS!!!

PS - On the plus side, an SEC team will finally lose a title game this year. :)

No, the opposite is true.  A playoff essentially took away Michigan State's right to the Big Ten championship.

I'm not arguing in favor of an LSU/Alabama rematch.  I don't think they should do a rematch.  But, I'm also saying you can't have it both ways.  I'm really disappointed the Big Ten has a championship game when it plays cross-division games during the regular season.  It makes Michigan State's regular season win meaningless.  So, a playoff system has issues too.

Exactly - a playoff did not diminish what happened in the regular season. But the B(C)S just has done that.

So the argument usually used AGAINST a playoff, has in fact been flipped.

Wait....isn't that what just happened to Michigan State because the Big Ten had it's first playoff?  And, what was the point of Michigan State's original win over Wisconsin?  Didn't the Big Ten playoff diminish Michigan State's win.....?

... that a playoff would diminish the regular season of college football.

The B(C)S has just done that, by dismissing LSU's win AT Alabama earlier this year and giving Nick Saban a month to prepare for a rematch.

Yawn.

It's nice that Michigan got chosen, but VaTech??? They couldn't even give us the RichRod Bowl???

The B(C)S has already made 99% of bowl games -- even the sacred Rose Bowl -- meaningless exhibitions played in front of 20,000+ empty seats.

Now they have rendered the regular season -- long considered the best argument against a playoff -- meaningless as well.

What a joke. The Big Ten and Pac 12 need to just withdraw from this joke and play 5-6 bowls between the two leagues in a bowl week leading up to the Rose Bowl. More people would tune in to that anyway.

GO CATS!!!

PS - Urban Meyer and his SEC ilk owe the Big Ten an apology for the anti-Michigan/OSU rematch whines of 2007 ... so do the voters that year ... at least that was a rematch people actually wanted to see.

I hope Bama wins by a field goal and shows everyone what a joke this B(C)S actually is.
