[NU Sports] Never again should we hear ...

First of all this is why I like the no playoff system ; the arguments and the discussions abound and no one can claim they are right. In many years it allows more than 1 school to claim the title. Hard to imagine that happening this year
Secondly the regular season does have meaning. Just ask Okie state about their loss to ISU or Stanford about their loss at home to Oregon. And if The Tide had lost another game during the regular season they sure as heck wouldn't be playing for the title. Sure if they beat The Tigers,LSU has a beef that they beat them on the road and therefore they should not lose the #1 ranking. Well in my opinion too bad. The games at the end always count more than earlier games.
In hoops where there is a true playoff system , several times the eventual champ beat a team in the finals that had beaten them earlier in the season. Off the bat, I can think of Nova over G'town in 1985 and Kansas over OK in 1988
As an aside I would agree that the BT teams seemed to got shafted in the rankings-but good bowl showings will probably correct that. If they don't do well in the bowls, then the lower rankings may prove accurate

But put yourself in LSU's shoes. You already beat Bama, AT Bama. You also won all of your other games. Now you play that Bama team again with a month to prepare?
What happens if Bama wins by a late field goal?
Basically, it's made the regular season meaningless -- something critics of a playoff always used to argue against a playoff.
The Lil XII may be overrated, but at least we haven't seen OSU/LSU (I would say Stanford, but they didn't win their league, and you should have to win your league title to win a national title, right Bama?).
The B(C)S has usually failed to deliver a clear #1 vs. #2 matchup, but they've escaped scrutiny most years because #1 has won the matchup and avoided a nightmare. And when OSU was the clear #1 in 2007 and lost, they did so badly and the SEC hype machine took over covering up the mess. But a close Bama win would expose the sham as a lot of AP voters might still want to vote LSU #1 since they won a game AT Bama earlier this year.
The B(C)S cartel is gonna be wearing purple and gold on the night of the "title" game.
GO CATS!!!

PS - And the rankings overall? A joke. You mean to tell me that the Big Ten champ, who lost two games on the final play of the game, is only #10??? Behind South Carolina? K-State? Arkansas? REALLY???? DEATH TO THE B(C)S!!!

Alabama's only loss is by 3 points to the #1 team in the country. Who else would qualify for #2 ? Oh and by the way they play in the toughest conference (5 straight BCS titles). Hard to justify any other teams. While Stanford,OKie State, Oregon or even Wisky might be better, they didn't prove it during the regular (and conference tourney) season

... that a playoff would diminish the regular season of college football.
The B(C)S has just done that, by dismissing LSU's win AT Alabama earlier this year and giving Nick Saban a month to prepare for a rematch.
Yawn.
It's nice that Michigan got chosen, but VaTech??? They couldn't even give us the RichRod Bowl???
The B(C)S has already made 99% of bowl games -- even the sacred Rose Bowl -- meaningless exhibitions played in front of 20,000+ empty seats.
Now they have rendered the regular season -- long considered the best argument against a playoff -- meaningless as well.
What a joke. The Big Ten and Pac 12 need to just withdraw from this joke and play 5-6 bowls between the two leagues in a bowl week leading up to the Rose Bowl. More people would tune in to that anyway.
GO CATS!!!

PS - Urban Meyer and his SEC ilk owe the Big Ten an apology for the anti-Michigan/OSU rematch whines of 2007 ... so do the voters that year ... at least that was a rematch people actually wanted to see.
I hope Bama wins by a field goal and shows everyone what a joke this B(C)S actually is.
