[NU Sports] This is good news (I hope)

I hope Fitz and McCall are taking not of Sparty's repeated--and successful--use of passes in the flat to their speedy WR's. I could see Venric and Kain doing that all night in Purple.

Oh, I'm cheering for Sparty all the way. They haven't been to Pasadena since the 80s and I respect Dantonio a heck of a lot more than the Smug Smirk.

This is turning into another great clash between these two teams. Wisky came out strong, Sparty answered and now Wisky has gotten back to within one.

I'll go with my comment from last week that few coaches understand momentum in a game as well as Dantonio - great calls on the 4th and 1 and such. He gambles at time, but picks his spots well on D and special teams.

As for the Smug Smirk, I'm not sure he doesn't get too cute when it comes to big games. Last year, he needed to stick to the script and pound TCU in Pasadena, but he panicked when they got down, went off script and got cute-sy. Same thing tonight except it was with a lead. UW gets up early and he goes away from the run. He's got a lot of pressure here because his boss (Barry Alvarez) was a great big-game coach. Bielema's already lost one more Rose Bowl than Barry and if he blows this second shot at Sparty this year before even getting to Pasadena with this loaded team, he might be feeling a small amount of heat in Madison.

Couldn't happen to a smug-er guy.:)

Either way, I think either will be fine in Pasadena as long as they play Big Ten football. They have experienced QBs, so the array of blitzes from Oregon shouldn't phase them. And they should dominate both sides of the line -- so smash the ball down their throats and keep their speed off the field to make some Duck roadkill and continue to show why the computers are full of BS when they consistently rank Pac 12 and Lil' XII teams ahead of Big Ten teams (it's astounding MSU and Wisky are still in the teens with all of the losses by Oregon, Oklahoma and the like recently).

GO CATS!!!

Stephen,

I am going to diverge from your prediction of Wisky by 14.  Logically, you are spot-on, but two factors lead me to a different conclusion.  First, I was very impressed by MSU's focus against us last week.  They could have taken the week off, but they didn't.  They are solid, especially on D.

Second, and perhaps more importantly, they will be obsessed to smell the Roses.  Smirk amd crew just went to Pasadena, but Sparty lost out and ended up in Orlando.  They--and their fans (who scarfed up their allotment of tickets by midwee', while the Cheeseheads had not) will be hungrier--even with the revenge factor favoring UW.

I predict MSU by a late field goal.  Maybe its my heart talking, not my head, but I prefer Dantonio over BB and like the way Cousins handles himself.

I think it helps Michigan's case somewhat ... though the computers will likely not drop Houston far, and thus they won't drop out of the top 14 (which would help UM jump into the necessary top 14 status) ... nor is USM likely to bypass the Wolverines.

It does help TCU, however, who will take the automatic non-AQ bid if they jump into the top 16.

As for tonight, the game we really need to hold our breaths for in Big Ten terms is the Bedlam game -- a close win by Okie State might not drop OU below Michigan and make them the other at-large berth. A win by OU would definitely hurt Michigan and make Okie State a likely at-large berth. So we need a solid Cowpoke win.

For Indy, it's safe to cheer for Dantonio (would actually be better since they're higher than UW and would knock the Badgers below the Wolverines) ... and always preferable to cheer against the Smug Smirk. After watching Chip Kelley keep his starters in to the end last night trying to score enough to make people forget that his Quackers allowed 31 points to UCLA, the Rose Bowl may not be big enough to hold the two egos if it's Chip Kelley vs. the Smug Smirk. Plus Sparty's had a long drought and got ripped off last year in the B(C)S process for the Big Ten's bids.

That said, I think the Badgers win by two scores. :(

I am going to guess that Houston losing to Southern Miss is good for the Big Ten, hence good for the Beloved 'Cats.  Am I correct to think this ?  Is it safe to root for Dantonio tonight and against Bielema ?
