I don't think the number of fired coaches this year among the 120 FBS
schools has exceeded that of last year--yet. Howard Schnellenberger
announced his retirement last summer, so that one probably shouldn't
be counted. True retirements among FBS head coaches are relatively
rare, which is in itself a sad statement. (Would Bobby Bowden have
counted as a 'retirement' or as a 'forced out, eg fired'?)

I have to wonder if JoePa had retired a year or two ago, as many thought
he should at the time, would he or Penn State have been so heavily
tainted by the Sandusky matter?

Penn State hired the former director of the FBI to look into the
problems there, will they hire Diogenes to help them find a new
football coach? :-)
