I'm not convinced yet that the infractions alleged at Miami are quite
at the level of the ones that SMU was found to have committed.

SMU officials, all the way up to the Board of Governors, were involved
in continuing the prohibited slush fund payments to players after assuring
the NCAA that payments were no longer being made.

That goes so far beyond 'loss of institutional control' that it
still boggles the mind that the SMU Board of Governors made that decision.

What I never understood back then was how the SMU slush fund, which
reportedly dated back at least 10 years and was considered one of
the worst kept secrets in college sports, took that long to merit
official notice.

FWIW, any penalties against Miami could have an impact on the Big Ten,
because several Big Ten teams are on Miami's future schedules, including
Nebraska.
