[NU Sports] Conference Shakeup - The Sequel ...

You have to look at the SEC statement very carefully. They didn't say no to
TAMU, they just said not at this time. One reason is they want the Aggies
to have all of their issues with the Big XII and the Texas Legislature
settled before the SEC is formally involved. Slive is a smart guy and
doesn't want to be seen as having anything to do with the breakup of the Big
XII.
Then there is the matter of the 14th (or 15th and 16th) school(s).
Supposedly, a promise was made that no school would be invited from an
existing member's state. That narrows the prospective field down to
Missouri and Virginia Tech, with my money on Va Tech if they only take one,
and another run at the Oklahoma schools if they go for three although their
cherished geographical equilibrium will be upset in that case.
This story is far from over and TAMU is unlikely to remain a Big XII member
for long - certainly not past this year. Too many years in the shadow of
Austin and the Longhorn Network was the last straw. If the Aggies leave and
the Big XII wants to stay together the most likely invites would be Houston
BYU and Louisville, whose AD said he wasn't interested yesterday.
