What exactly is this list based on ? It seems like a list of the smallest BCS stadiums, but what exactly makes these places 'abominations' ? My dictionary says anything 'greatly disliked or abhorred', but I am hard-pressed to think of anybody who abhors these stadiums. Maybe dislike one or two of them. I sometimes dislike Ryan Field, for instance when it is really crowded and a rest room is hard to find, but greatly dislike it ? Why exactly ?
The author mentions aesthetics, age, seating capacity, presence of an upper deck ? I would rate the old place high on aesthetics(certainly the view from the upper deck qualifies), and the seating capacity is well-suited to the average attendance. All Big Ten stadiums are old. Are we to believe that Ross-Ade, IU, Iowa, Michigan State, Penn State are always aesthetically pleasing ? I have been to all of these places, and the experience is not always 100% enjoyable. It seems like another list assembled poorly, the main purpose of which is to cause more controversy than to enlighten.
Has Ryan Field been neglected ? Obviously. But is it one of the 10 greatest abominations in the BCS ? Obviously not. Add/update a few restrooms and concession stands, and improve traffic patterns around the stadium, and the old place is fine.

Subject: [NU Sports] Ryan Field
You can tell football season is coming when articles and blog posts start
appearing with surveys such as the 10 worst stadiums among BCS schools. No,
we weren't the worse, just close. Ryan came in second to the abomination
that is Nippert Stadium in Cinncinnati. It's also older than Ryan, having
been built in 1902. It's hard for me to argue about the stadiums on this
list:
