Big week of headlines for NU's athletic department (nice change to have such active promotion! :) ) ... first the Persa Heisman campaign and now a new hoops court!

Quick thoughts on the Persa campaign is that I like us getting our name and his out there. I remember the Oregon Joey Harrington billboard in NYC as the first time a lot of people outside the Pacific Northwest heard of the Ducks. We're not quite in the same situation (for one thing, 1995 was our breakout moment), but it would be great if it had some similar buzz ripples.

As for the court, I like pretty much all the options (http://nusports.cstv.com/genrel/080111aah.html) except the second (the cat at midcourt only), but I'm LOVING the purple court! I fully realize purple turf would be a bit much and probably turn more fans off than have the brand recognition of Boise State's smurf turf ... plus, our football product has spoken for itself in the past decade plus.

However, we're not in that situation in basketball. The purple court could give us that Boise State-like recognition in hoops that could ripple like their turf did, and it's a smaller area covered with purple, so not so much an eye sore as an explosion of purple pride!

It's waaaaay better than Oregon's "Blair Witch" court. :)

A bit gimmicky, yes, but we need some kind of gimmick to boost NU hoops. Anyone got a "smurf turf" like nickname for it? Marketing GOLD! :)

I like the first and last options as well though with the BIG HONKIN' N at midcourt (the N that's bigger than the three-point arc) ... but why not go all out?

In any case, a good week for the athletic department in getting NU some press play and trying to tide us purple fans over until football starts in 33 days!

PS - I still say the purple checkerboard end zones rocked. Purple is so much better than that awful Vols orange!
