[NU Sports] NU/ND renew football rivalry - just announced

I think the BT expansion train as far as ND is concerned has left the
station.

If they came to Delaney today and asked to be in, he might very well say
no because the dust has so recently settled on the new divisional
structure with Nebraska.

So I question what we (NU and BT) have to gain by "freezing" ND out of
our schedule.

We are already beating them in TV ratings. If we can continue to beat
them on the field and in the rankings, we will at some point also begin
to beat them in recruiting.

IMHO that is the best way to accelerate their decline. The latest
incident with Michael Floyd is evidence of how desperate ND and Kelly
are to win. It's another step on their road to becoming just another
"football first" school.

By 2015, when the ND TV contract expires, the BT could easily be in a
position where ND is more valuable to us as a quality NC game for
neighboring BT schools than an actual member of the conference.

Jeff

I agree!

If we read message from a few months back posters then made them out to
be the lowest of the low. Now we are almost fainting to be playing them.

I still say NO Big Ten ten (NU included) should play ND until it joins
the Big Ten or another conference and gives up its NBC schedule.

	I LOVE IT!

If you want to be the best, you have to play the best.

What better way to throw down the gauntlet for all those folks
from the
Chicago area who currently make the weekly pilgrimage to South
Bend.
Now they will have a choice. Drive to SB to see ND play BYU or
stay
home and see NU play Nebraska.

If NU wants to be Chicago's BT team, we have to start acting
like it.

That means nc games that people in Chicago are going to want to
see (ND,
	Cal, BC, etc.).

It also means that the BEST of the BT will be playing in
Evanston too.

I'm sure the Fitz is all in and ready for the challenge.

This is our opportunity to demonstrate that we CAN play with the
big
	boys.

Another big score for AD Phillips - Notre Dame, in OUR house!

I just wish we had a bye before the game in South Bend so we
could enjoy
two weeks of reliving the 17-15 game. :)

Our NC schedule has certainly been beefed up and I LOVE this
game -
especially that it's a home and home ... not home and Soldier
Field or
home and two away. Nice job all around by Phillips!

	However ...

You can't ignore that when looking at our schedules for the next
few
years now that it's gonna get awfully tough, awfully fast. Our
Big Ten
schedule now includes five of the following six (OSU, UM, Wisky,
Iowa,
PSU and Nebraska), plus our annual Illini rivalry, plus always
tricky
Sparty, plus Cal/BC/ND (Cal and ND both in 2014). That's not
just adding
a few tougher games - that's playing 4 or 5 of the legendary
names in
the sport every year, along with 4 or 5 other pretty darn good
teams.

Can Persa stay another 4-5 years? :)

But overall, kudos to Phillips and everyone at NU - this is a
huge coup
and I can't wait to see the F'ing Irish walk into Ryan Field and
see the
	place packed in PURPLE!
