I thought it was absurd so I commented at the end of the article under the name Marc including posting the link to past heisman voting http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=748498
I also looked closely at our 1995 schedule.  It was brutal:

3/4ths of our opponents had non-losing records, 3 top 15 teams, 6 top 30 teams, 6 bowl teams, and nobody played subdivision teams to pad the victory totals.  Darnell played against serious competition and until Bates came into his own it was the Darnell show along with a killer defense.
Early season speculation is fun, but "crazy talk".  In 1997 after shutting out Oklahoma 24-0, I thought we could surpass the '95 defense.  Bah!  With this schedule it is possible we won't know how good Dan is.  I really like everything about Dan, but it is way, way too early to start talking about anything besides Central Michigan.

competition has been a bit different, still....
