I have always said that no team should go for two until late in the fourth 
quarter.  If anyone did a study, I would suspect they would find it damaging 
more often than helpful.  Remember the '96 Rose Bowl?  Twice the Cats went 
for two and failed.  As a result, they were down nine points when they tried 
that fateful field goal at the end of the game.  Had they been down seven, 
they would have gone for it on fourth down and maybe continued the drive to 
a tie.
