[NU Sports] Trumpy

Well, I guess I get the jackass title, because I was hoping to see Adonis start
this week. I was very happy to see Trumpy do well, and not surprised, but I
think Smith ultimately brings more to the table. He looked good in the first
half again this week--not sure why he didn't get back into the game.
In any case, though, nice (and crucial) effort by Trumpy--I do think he has a
chance to be a key part of our offense for years to come.
I do think we missed Schmidt in a big way on some pass protections--he is very
effective at that, and Trumpy got beat on at least one or two costly occasions.
I'm sure Smith and Trumpy's playing time will depend a lot on how well they pick
up those skills going forward.
Other than that, props to Persa, Ebert, and Demos for outstanding efforts. And
of course Watkins delivered that one through that made the winning FG possible.
Big worry: pass protection. We can't beat the rest of the teams on the schedule
blocking like that. Hope they can shore that up.
Overall, the "keep everything in front of you" defensive effort continues to
work. It's frustrating to watch sometimes, when the soft coverage gives up the
underneath stuff, but you can see why they do it. The only real problem was the
final TD--if you're only going to rush 3, never, ever, ever let anyone get
deeper than your deepest guy.
I was really hoping to see a nice crisp game, but it didn't happen. Again, too
many penalties, dropped passes early, missed blocks, etc.
But given that we got the win anyway, I can go ahead and wait one more week for
NU to play a perfect, sharp, 60 minutes of football.
