I can't tell if you're joking or not. 

I haven't seen what I would consider "harsh criticism" of a college football 
national championship. Some people (myself included) have said that we largely 
don't care. However, to answer your question Northwestern winning the national 
championship would meet at least two of my four criteria (NU playing in and 
winning a bowl game) so yes I would watch and no I would not be depressed.
