Interesting how they keep finding new candidates to leapfrog the little guys ... will get real interesting if Bama beats Auburn and Sparty/Mizzou also lose (probably this weekend for both in the cornfields).

But I just don't understand the Boise/TCU/Utah hate coming from listers -- NU fans should applaud the Davids against the Goliaths! And I really don't know what else you expect these guys to do to prove worthy ...

* BOISE is 2-0 in B(C)S bowls, beat a top ACC team on the road to start this year and a top Pac 10 team at home, beat Oregon last year - it's not their fault no one wants to schedule them!

* UTAH is also 2-0 in B(C)S bowls, smacking down Nick Saban and Alabama on SEC home turf, beating likely Big East champ (and hence B(C)S team) Pitt earlier this year.

* TCU lost to Boise in a well-played B(C)S bowl, beat Oklahoma a couple years back, beat a top Pac 10 team this year and again will play anyone anywhere.

Maybe you guys can stand the glut of 6-6 vs. 6-6 bowls (do we really need 30+ bowls to make sure everyone gets a trophy?!?!) before empty seats in the exotic locales of Landover, MD; Charlotte, NC; and Albuquerque, NM. But in the words of Herm Edwards, most people play to win THE game. Not win a meaningless third-tier bowl game in mid-December at 3 p.m. on ESPN8 against whatever MAC team the bowl had to invite because conference A couldn't fill its allotment of bowls.

Obviously NU bowls come first - preferably ones that mean something.

But as much as I love college football, I just don't watch much of the other bowls these days as they have really lost all their luster from before the B(C)S ruined everything. I'll tune in to the Big Ten bowls for awhile and the "title" game, but the rest are like preseason NFL games.

Having a "David vs. Goliath" story for the title game would be something to perk the B(C)S up this year and would certainly draw more interest than Auburn vs. Oregon. And as fellow Davids of the college football world, I think a lot of NU fans would love to see that as well.

I like the all-purple matchup, but I'm hoping for Tempe over Houston. :)

And as for the top of the league, it's tough to see Bucky or the Bucks losing again, so Sparty better win out to ensure Pasadena, because I have a feeling they would be the odd man out in a 3-way tie with only 2 B(C)S bids. And the PSU-Michigan game in Happy Valley this weekend could be for the Gator Bowl bid, though Illinois may be making a charge (ugh).

GO CATS!!!
