[NU Sports] "legitimate" titles

I am a huge fan of college football but I don't care at all about national
titles. The concept fits with our culture (we enjoy identifying who is #1) but it
is largely meaningless. I like having 33+ bowl games to watch. I define a great
season using only four criteria.
1) The Cats have a winning record and go to a bowl
2) Notre Dame has a losing record and doesn't
3) The Cats go to the Rose Bowl
4) The Cats win whatever bowl they are in
What happens for USC, Alabama, Florida or Texas is meaningless to me.
I think one of the greatest things about college football is that there rarely
is a clear #1 team. It allows for on-going conversations about who didn't play
who, what would have happened if tow teams had met on the field, and why one
team has a claim over another. Fans love to debate this stuff. No one I know
would suffer more under a playoff system than SjT who dedicates no less than 200
emails a year to the banter. If that all went away, what would he do?
Victory & Honor,
Jim
