It's amazing what you can find on the Internet. According to the following 1981 Time article, the flip-card section was disbanded sometime in the late 1950s or early 1960s, which is consistent with the recollections of our list members.
Quote from 7th paragraph of article:
"Ara Parseghian supplied some euphoric times in the late '50s and early '60s, when the flip-card section at Dyche Stadium reached a point of such giddiness that cards were tossed, spectators hurt and the section disbanded."
