My understanding is that they had paint outside the gates and painted the yellow or black.  Maybe I read this on Lake The Posts, but I am not sure.

I'd be curious to find out if the tickets had the information about
what color to wear on them, since it was being controlled by the 
section number.

I dunno, maybe it's because I've seen an all-red stadium enough times
not to mention a mostly purple Rose Bowl, but the Penn State white-out 
just doesn't impress me.  

I guess I've never noticed what they do at Boise State games, maybe because 
of blue turf induced blindness? :-)
