[NU Sports] Brewster out in Minny

For their money, assistants get about 2 or 3 weeks off a year, the rest of the time is
spent recruiting, planning for the next game, recruiting, teaching the plan, recruiting,
traveling to see recruits, recruiting, and performing whatever work they do during the
game.
When they're not recruiting, they are out recruiting, watching tape, recruiting,
traveling, talking to recruits and players, and recruiting.
Its a 7/24 job that pays about what a good starting corporate lawyer makes - for about
the same time.
But there is a good part to the job, if they do a good job they get to do it all again
next year.

I think you are underestimating what assistant coaches get at a Big Ten level
school, even Northwestern, by a factor of 100% or more. Salaries for the
University
of Minnesota coaches are public, but I can only find data for 2008-09, during
which
the lowest paid assistant coach at Minnesota got $110K. (The coaches at
UM-Duluth
got a lot less, of course.)
At Nebraska, the lowest paid assistant football coach currently gets $150K, and
I
think also some of the money from summer clinics.
