Oh, I don't know.  Maybe just about everybody who follows college football? 
Sure, there are many college football fans who realize their favorite team 
is unlikely to every reach that goal.  But do you think that if Rice were 
undefeated at the end of the season and ranked 20th that their fans wouldn't 
be demanding a shot at the big prize?  You sound like someone who's given up 
all hope that happening and feel good about rationalizing those feelings.
