[NU Sports] Ditto

I guess it depends on how you define "remotely".

This is all about putting more money in the pot.

If a playoff system flows more money to BT teams than the current bowl
system, then it DOES benefit NU through increased revenue sharing.

Beyond that, I tend to agree only because NU already has a path to a BCS
championship game in the current system. It will become even stronger
through the upcoming BT playoff system. If NU goes undefeated and wins
the BT playoff game, it is likely going to be competing for a national
championship the way things work now. We don't need more help.

On the surface, playoffs will be promoted as a way for the
"Hoosier"-type teams who don't have the strength of a BCS conference
behind them to still play for a national championship. What it really
will do is allow the traditional football powers to compete for a
national championship even though they have a couple of losses by
winning their conference championship and getting hot at the end of the
year.

Jeff

Everything related to college athletics comes down to a single thing --
How
does it BENEFIT NORTHWESTERN both academically and athletically?
Nothing else matters.
I don't see playoffs as something that would every remotely benefit NU.
In
our middling years(8 wins or less) we would be left out. In our good
years
I doubt we would get a home game so we would be playing on the road(see
NIT). Neutral site games don't provide good attendance on short notice,
which means any NU fans would be paying big money to get down to
Fayettville, Arkansas to sit in the end zone upper deck.
The bowl system rewards the teams with extra practices for player
development and provides the fans with a warm weather vacation along
with a
bonus football game.
I don't care about polls and who is number 1. I am concerned aobut how
Northwestern does and whether the conference reputation improves or
degrades
in the post season. Nothing else!
